Twink Records was founded in 1969 by James Polk as the result of a recording project
collabortation initiated by James Polk and long time friend James R. Hurst.
The name "Twink" was the nickname of the proprietor of the Hide-a-way Lounge, (
a popular night club in East Austin during the 1960's). He gave Polk permission to use
the name for the label. The independent label produced several artists during those
years, such as: James Polk & The Brothers, The Fabulous Mark III, Techniques Four,
Yvonne Joseph and others. We are currently under reconstruction with new goals in sight
for the new millennium. Bob Gillet, (a manager at Sullivan's Steakhouse in Austin),
suggested that the group of Dr. James Polk and Company go into the studio to record
some of the original music he heard being played nightly at Sullivan's. The CD "When
Evening Comes" is the result of that initial suggestion. Twink Records anticipates
producing more of Austin's local talent and taking it to the national and international level.
With great effort, luck, hard work and your support we can acheive this goal.
